Neuromuscular Junction 24″ X 36″, 22K gold and enamel on stainless steel 2013 Heavily nucleated muscle fibers (green tubes) are arranged into bundles where they make up the bulk of a skeletal muscle. Incoming axons from the spinal cord (white) synapse onto these fibers at a frequency of one axon for one fiber. This extensive synaptic bouton comprises the neuromuscular junction. Capillaries (gold) envelop the energy hungry fibers to supply the system with sufficient energy to function.
